Where have I been?

by Diane on December 14, 2009

Does it matter?  Naw.  But that’s ok.  I’ve been doing the getting ready for Christmas thing.  Most of the presents are purchased – a few left to get.

I’ve been blasé about it this year and that is probably nuts.  My son and his girlfriend are driving in from Baltimore and I should be freaking out and getting the house all jazzed up – but what the hell, it will happen when it happens.

Kit and I put up the Christmas tree yesterday and all the decorations.  Nope, I don’t have pictures – we used the same stuff as last year.

I’m sitting here eating this:

Edy's Peppermint Ice Cream

Let me tell you, this stuff rawks.  I think I’m going on an Eady’s Peppermint Ice Cream diet.  Yep, that’s the ticket.  I think they only make this stuff at this time of year and when I see it, I snag as many as I can.

Part of my blahness is winter.  Winter and I do not get along.  Haven’t for a long time.   I really hate driving in it.  If I could stay in the house and have everything delivered, that would be cool, but that’s not happening.

Also, I’m working lots.  As we all know, companies aren’t hiring so the ones who are left are working their asses off.  Wait til we all just explode and melt away.  Very cool.

I also said something to a friend that was a long time coming.  May never hear from that person again.  But, it needed to be said and in fact, a lot more.  I guess I’ve changed – there is only so much BS that I will tolerate any more.

I haven’t been quilting or doing anything creative – that’s ok, too.  I guess.  I need to be calmer in my mind before I can enjoy that again, I think.

I read Pat Conroy’s book – South of Broad I think the title is.  Very good, I really like Pat Conroy and need to read more of his stuff.  I’ve read the Prince of Tides and really liked it and I think one other.  I plan to get the rest of his books and read them.  He is a marvelous writer.

The book I read before Conroy’s was Republican Gomorrah by Max Blumenthal.  That is an amazing book – one you have to study, not just read, if you know what I mean – it really explains what has happened to the Republican party and what has gone on with our politics.  Scary, very scary.

I have finally accepted that I will never win anything from The Pioneer Woman, *laughing*.  Fun to try but it probably will never happen.  I’ve had my eye on those red Kitchen Aid mixers she gives away every so often.  I wish she would give away a Nikon D90 and I would win it, that would make my year – hell, a few of the upcoming ones, too.  I did buy her cookbook and it’s good – support a blogger and go and get it.

One of the cats is in the Christmas tree – it is Sammy.  Now he’s trying to climb it.  Just tried to get a picture but my camera doesn’t take pictures fast enough.

OK, I need to go to bed.
