A new year a/k/a bitches from Di

by Diane on January 1, 2010

I took a blogging break.  I needed it.  I’m not a prolific blogger – lord some of those gals have diarrhea of the fingers, I think.  I stopped reading blogs since Thanksgiving for the most part.  At one point, I had over 3,000 posts to read in my RSS feed.  Gak.

I have been whipping through them and have frankly found little of interest.  Oh, I’m sure it’s amazingly interesting to them and their buds, but not to me.  So, I cut several from my reading list.

I’ve done the pet peeves thing before, but here are some more:

  • MUSIC – loose it, please!
  • Ad museum close up pictures and a million pix of the same damn thing and on an angle yet… like that is going to make it better?  Lots of the home decor/reno blogs do this.  Whatever for?
  • A million pictures of your kids and families. OK, I understand each blog is ones own personal journal, but give your readers a break now and then.
  • Calling your children and grandchildren by cutesy names.  I realize that I call my daughter Miss Princess Butt and that will now change.  I apologize to my readers that I have done this.  I will not do it again.
  • Giveaways.  If you are going to do a giveaway, just do it.  Don’t demand your readers jump through hoops by posting to their blogs, standing on their heads, answering a million cutesy questions.  We all know why you are doing it – to drive readers to your blog – just do your giveaway – I think you engender more goodwill by being simple.
  • Here’s a big one – crippling your feed by making people who read through RSS or whatever reader have to go to your blog.   I deleted 12 blogs that I usually read because of that.
  • If you want comments, open it up to everyone.  Don’t make people have to use Gmail or just Blogger.  There are tons of us out there that would probably like to comment but I’ll be damned if I have to jump through hoops to do it.  There is one famous online quilt shop that does this – I even wrote her and asked her to open it up – she said she would look at it – well, nothing has been done so guess what…I can buy from many other places.  She lost my business.

OK, that’s enough bitching from me for now, lol.  I really am not such a cow, but I think some of this needed to be said.  Now, on to the regular stuff if you are still with me.  My theme has an upgrade – so I need to do that and some other housekeeping things around the blog – need to change the pictures in the rotator and other good things.  Cross your fingers that I don’t mess it up.

Be well everyone and Happy New Year!

Yipes. I have to run “home” and see which of these things I do. I hope I don’t do all of them. LOL.

Happy New Year, Di.
